It is the number of calories your body requires for normal body functions such as breathing and digesting food excluding activity factors. BMR is determined by your weight and height. You can use your basal metabolic rate to determine your total daily energy expenditure which will help you when you design your personal nutrition and training plans. Your total daily energy expenditure is the total number of calories that your body expends in 24 hours including all activities.
